Cistercian abbey to remember

On the recent trip to Tuscany we discovered San Galgano Abbey, which is for me one of the most beautiful monuments I have ever seen. The mysterious atmosphere of the place and the enigma of noble man Galgano Guidotti who renounced a life of “arrogance, lust and violence” to become a hermit after seeing a vision of the Archangel Michael really made a big impression on me.

The site is made up of two major attractions: the gothic roofless cathedral and the unusually shaped monastery of Montesiepi, and ancient hermitage, which hosts the tomb of San Galgano and the sword in the stone.

Volovja reber

Volovja reber is situated on the edge of Snežnik plateau from where you can even see Julian Alps and Dolomites. Vast plains with enormous number of different animal species, some of them even endangered. It really is a true hidden gem of Slovenia . Destroying it would be a mistake and a great loss for all of us.

Vrh nad Škrbino

I left Logatec really early and needed two hours just to get to my starting point, meadow Podkuk. It was still dark when I started walking and fog was so thick that I bearly saw my shoes. After one hour I was already on the last meadow Razor surrounded with beautiful mountains. From there I headed towards my destination, Vrh nad Škrbino. The path was covered with snow, so I did not follow the marked route and chose the shortest line to the top instead. The summit itself is the start of the ridge Peči and offers a beautiful view on peaks around Triglav, Bohinj lake, Karavanke, Kamnik Alps and mountains in Italy. After quick snack on the top, I started my way back to the meadow. From the top I followed beautiful ridge, that spiced my hike a little bit. After approximately one hour I reached ruins of Alpine wall. Alpine wall was a system of fortications along Italy’s northern frontier built in the years of WWII.

From there it was just an easy walk towards my starting point. All in all a superb hike.

Enjoying the weather

We took advantage of good weather and the last day of vacation and visited Dleskovška plateau and summit Deska. Nice.

the highest summit in Kamnik Alps. I had it just for myself last friday. Gorgeous view from top and a lot of fresh snow on the way to the top.
